Our herd of English Longhorns has grown to 41, with 15 expecting calves in Spring 2025 . This small framed heritage breed thrives on a 100% grass diet, producing rich, well-marbled meat. The cows spend the harshest of the winter months inside eating hay made from the river meadows and return to the pastures with their calves in the spring. We practice mob grazing, moving the herd daily to regenerate the soil with their nutrient-rich manure, which dung beetles, insects, and worms process providing nutrients to the roots and other living organisms. We don't use any chemicals on our grasslands. All beef sold in our shop comes from our herd, and we take great pride in respecting and caring for our animals throughout their lives.

At 79 years young, Tom's dad Mike, breeds and grows his herd of saddleback pigs for all of the pork in the shop, we are pleased to be his only stockist. Saddlebacks are a traditional slow growing breed, suited to both pork & bacon. His extensive system has been going strong for the past 24 years and everyone who has tried the pork in the shop will agree how tasty it is with just the right amount of fat and proper crackling.

Our sheep are out all year with the ewes coming inside to give birth in the spring returning to the fields with their lambs shortly after. The herd includes a mixture of Jacob ewes and cross bred Jacob & Texel ewes. Like our cows, the sheep are 100% grassfed and are grown slowly, this means that we often have Hogget rather than lamb available in the shop. A hogget is a lamb that is over a year old, the meat has a greater depth of flavour than younger lamb but is still tender enough to cook quickly. Mutton is an older ewe which has had lambs and has come to the end of her breeding life, this meat offers itself to so cooking and spiced dishes. We are thankful for the lambs they have grown and believe these girls deserve the best even after life, so are given the same care and attention at butchery and available to buy and enjoy.

Our own flock of hens live on our diverse pastures in movable houses we call egg mobiles, which are moved regulary. This means they have access to fresh pasture everyday and they can supplement their grain based diet with seeds, weeds, insects, grubs, worms and even the odd frog. This life enables the hens to display their natural behaviours and keep themselves busy with dust baths and scratching about in the bottoms of thistle beds.

Nestled on the canal live the bees who collect the pollen from a diverse mixture of crops, hedgerows and trees we have here on the farm. We have been free from insectides since 2016 and offer a safe haven for bees who are expertly cared for by a local beekeeper.
