Our Story

Tom and Mary owners of Cranley Barn Farms

Tom & Mary

We are a family-run farm near Milton Keynes, dedicated to sustainable farming practices that nurture our soil and honor the well-being of our animals. We started out in 2012, as newly married pig farmers. Over the last 12 years we have been slowly expanding our business and in 2019 we opened our farm shop. Today we sell Pork, beef, lamb, eggs, honey, bread and veg, all produced here on the farm.

"We are a regenerative farm, dedicated to improving the health of our soil in everything we do."

Diversity

We have expanded our variety of plants, including allowing some weeds to grow and we’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of insects, birds and mammals on our farm.

Livestock Intergration

We have integrated livestock into our arable land, reducing our reliance on artificial fertilisers and enhancing soil structure, fertility, and overall ecosystem health by supporting the soil microorganisms.

Minimise Soil Disturbance

Whether in our arable fields or grasslands, we maintain our soil structure to ensure water and air can circulate which enhances root growth and plant health. To do this we sucessufully avoid compaction from animals and machinary, and avoid deep cultivations such as ploughing.

Maintain Living Roots

Living roots release exudates that feed soil microorganisms which helps to break down organic matter and release nutrients to growing plants. We will drill our next crop into a crop thats already growing to ensure these microorganisms never go hungry.

Protect Soil Surface

Ensuring good coverage of growing matter protects the soil from the elements and prevents erosion . A tall canopy of grass also provides a cooler enviroment which not only benefits the soil fauna but also our animals.
